Bandelier National Monument Seeking Restaurant for Frijoles Canyon

Offers Must Be Submitted by January 5, 2017

Los Alamos – The National Park Service (NPS) has announced the release of a prospectus for the award of a new concession contract to operate food and beverage service and limited retail in Bandelier National Monument. The current concession contract for this service, held by Pajarito Plateau Trading Co., LLC, doing business as Bandelier Trading Company, will expire on December 31, 2016. The new 10-year concession contract is anticipated to take effect in the spring of 2017.

At a minimum, the NPS would like a person or entity operating under a concession contract (Concessioner) to provide seasonal food and beverage service in Building 17, a historic building in the Frijoles Canyon Historic District. The Concessioner would offer made-to-order breakfast and lunch items as well as pre-packaged, grab and go options for visitors who want to take food with them. Rather than full service dining, the NPS envisions a fast casual restaurant, in which patrons select food and drink items, either in a cafeteria-type serving system or at a counter, and pay before seating themselves.   "The Civilian Conservation Corps built this building in the 1930s to be a dining room and coffee shop," said Bandelier Superintendent Jason Lott. "In later years it was used for other purposes, and food service moved to a snack bar with no space for seating. We would like to offer our visitors a chance to once again sit down, relax, and enjoy this beautiful historic structure as well as their meal."

Parties interested in learning more about this opportunity and how to submit a proposal should visit the National Park Service’s Commercial Services website at https://concessions.nps.gov/prospectuses.htm.  This site can be used to access the prospectus, which provides information on the business opportunity, the terms and conditions of the contract, and proposal instructions.  Hard copies of the prospectus are available for a fee and must be requested from the National Park Service Intermountain Regional Office per the information on the National Park Service Commercial Services website.

All offers must be received by Jennifer Parker, Chief of Concessions, NPS, Intermountain Region, 12795 W. Alameda Parkway, Lakewood, CO 80228, no later than 4 p.m. MST on January 5, 2017

According to Superintendent Lott, "This is a very special opportunity for a new business to enhance the visitor's experience at one of New Mexico's busiest parks."
