5A/6A North/South Volleyball Game

By: Damon Salazar

It was a great day to be a SunDevil at the 2015 Class 5A/6A Volleyball Game.  Española Valley HS was well represented at the annual affair.  Outside Hitter Elana Salazar and Setter Nicole Romero were both on the roster. Additionally the team was Coached by the SunDevil Volleyball Coaching Staff which included Head Coach Damon Salazar, and Assistant Coaches Dennis Archuleta, Kristi Salazar and Amanda Maestas.

The North had a decisive victory with scores of 25-15 and 25-20, Elana Salazar who will continue her playing career at Mira Costa College (Oceanside, CA) and will compete on the Indoor and Beach Volleyball teams, had 7 Kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks and 1 Ace for the powerful hitting North Team.  Nicole Romero who will continue her playing career at University of the SouthWest (Hobbs, NM) had a team high 10 Assists and contributed 3 digs and 1 Ace Serve.

Coach Salazar was very impressed with the teams high Volleyball IQ and unselfishness.  The team quickly developed a high level of chemistry and worked to make each and every player standout during practice and the match.  This was very evident in the aggressive style the North team used to quickly take control of the Match.  He was also very proud of his  two former players who impressively represented the SunDevil Volleyball program. They showed the state of New Mexico that Española Valley High School plays volleyball at the highest level.
