Fiber Rocks! “  Arts Show Opens In Española

Submitted to the Daily Post

The Española Valley Fiber Arts Center’s (EVFAC) with its mission to promote the textile heritage of Northern New Mexico has initiated a collaboration with Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project’s (MPPP) an organization that documents, protect and sustain endangered archaeological treasures in the northern Rio Grande Valley. Both organizations share the mission of education, and the exhibition titled Fiber Rocks! aims to draw new audiences for each - petroglyph aficionados will learn about the visually expressive wealth of Fiber Artists and fiber arts aficionados will become aware of MPPP’s preserve filled with countless petroglyphs as an expression of local culture and heritage.

Fiber Rocks! is a testimony to the wealth of local heritage through contemporary creative expression. This traveling exhibition displays the creative artwork of 20+ Fiber Artists from six states, who have been directly inspired by their visit to the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Preserve. Motivated by the images edged in rock, the artists have created distinctive works of art spanning a wide range of 2- and 3-dimensional Fiber Arts disciplines.
